I have always been fairly athletic and active. As a kid, I played sports in school. As a young adult I would play squash, run, bike, swim, ski, sail, hike, canoe, kayak, golf… whatever. I like being physically active, somewhat competitive (with myself) and outdoors. As a more mature adult (50+) I have enjoyed triathlon.
Since 2009, I have completed several marathons and triathlons (e.g. Sprint, Olympic, & 70.3) including 2x Ironman Wisconsin. Over the past few years, my triathlon coach strongly encouraged me to include “strength” training in my overall training. And for a variety of reasons, I would always find an excuse to avoid it. “I don’t like it”, “I don’t know what to do in the gym”, “I don’t have another one-hour time slot in my day”, “It’s expensive”, etc. I never doubted its effectiveness; I just couldn’t seem to make it happen.
After I completed Ironman 2016, I decided to make “strength training” a priority. I started with a personal trainer 2-3 days per week. I liked the one-on-one attention and learned a few things, but the schedule and cost was not working out well for me. I knew Joe Patek, and recalled him telling me about CrossFit, strength and conditioning training, etc. So, I reached out to Joe to learn a little more…
Joe’s endorsement was good enough for me, and I decided to look into it further. I contacted Marcela via email, asked a few basic questions, and the rest is history. Since October/November 2016 I have been a regular (M-W-F 5:45 AM) at CrossFit100 (plus keeping up with my swim/bike/run). I cannot say enough positive things about CrossFit100. At first, it was a little awkward and confusing, especially when compared to the one-on-one trainer. But overtime, and with everyone’s help, I started to get the hang of it. The people and the coaches – especially Marcela – are the best! Everyone is SO helpful! And although it’s technically a “group” setting, Marcela makes you feel like it’s one-on-one. That’s a gift, and I’m grateful for it.
As my triathlon season has ramped up I am noticeably stronger on the bike and run. I attribute much of that to my overall strength and conditioning and Crossfit100. I look forward to continuing all of my training/fitness activities, and will most definitely keep Crossfit100 in the mix.
Thank you Marcela and CorssFit100 for helping me improve my fitness goals!
