In the fall of 2019, I was in a rut after having my two sons and longed for a big change. I felt sluggish, tired, and out of shape. Before having my boys I was an avid runner and regular yogi but having babies derailed my prior fitness ambitions. In many ways, I was in survival mode to maintain my demanding career in public relations and care for my boys. I was ready to make a change and do something different, something I knew would challenge me. I drove past CF100 many times and thought it would be harder to make excuses if my gym was just a few blocks away. I'm not sure if it was the proximity to the gym, the feeling of accomplishment after each workout, or the quick results I started seeing that didn't only make me stick with it, it's now an essential part of my weekly routine.
My current fitness:
When I started at CF100 I felt humbled after each workout. I was limited by my lack of fitness but determined to be better. Now I still feel that humbling feeling from time to time (hello, snatches) but more often feel a sense of accomplishment and mental clarity after each workout. When I started, 15 lb. dumbbells felt heavy. Just over a year later, they're my "light" dumbbells. Overall, just over a year after joining CF100, I'm in the best shape of my life and I love the energy and confidence my workouts bring to my everyday life.
What motivates me:
Originally my motivation was to feel better and get stronger. While those are still strong motivators I also like the friendly competition with myself and other CF100 friends (I'm talking to you, Amy!) Lifting more than what I thought I could shows me that I'm capable of more than I think is possible — in and out of the gym.
Least favorite movement:
Working on snatching without bruising my thighs
